Rocking Black Tights For The Fall.

tights

Hello my dear stylistas!!! It’s been a few days but I have missed you!!! I really have been working around the clock to get my new site up and believe me when I say it’s easier said than done!!! one thing’s for sure though, it will definitely be worth the wait, I mean what could be better than a cooler, more you-friendly and stylish layout with better and more captivating content? I’m sure you will be ready to forgive a few days of absence for that hm?

Today though, we explore the fashion item that is the black tights. I live in a part of the world that is tropical, which means I really have little or no use for tights, maybe to be worn on a cold night out but honestly I do not own any, but, I do like the way they look when styled in really cool and really short outfits. They help deal with the cold if you live in those regions and with Fall upon us …or upon you, it’s a good idea to get a few ideas on styling them:

Do you have some more ideas on how to style the famous black tights, made popular from the early to mid 1900s? Then drop a line and maybe a photo ok?

Hugs :))

More of My Fave Picks From The SS 2015 Fashion Week…

Yes there’s more and we are taking it all in! I’m sure you stylistas are eager to see more photos from the runways! Well, what can I say…There was that first outing of Giamba, the little sister to the brand we all know and love, Giambattista Valli, this collection designs with the young spirited girl in mind, perhaps the teenagers of our time. I loved the feminine yet chic looks in this collection. Jeremy Scott had fun with his life-size barbies at Moschino, Etro was another hit for me, very boho chic and there was Pucci in those colorful flowy  jewel necked dresses which looked to me like they were from a city in Greece in the days of the Hanging Gardens… was that Greece? no?…Babylon?… history? Anyway, they looked beautiful and while each model strutted out in as many  lengths and cuts as this beautiful collection could work, out comes Naomi Campbell! nice! Kendall Jenner made an appearance here also and her make up was so nice and clean, I absolutely loved it! and then Bluemarine… those colors…the sea….

Here are some more looks we love:

Notice the shirts/Jackets worn backwards?  and boy do I love the creativity in the denim! The sassy and edgy strappy shoes as well as the laser cuts? the wide legged pants, over sized bags and how the ponchos, scarves and jackets are thrown on as unexpected completer pieces,( inspired greatly by Burberry I might add)! What trends have you noticed? what do you think? hot? or hmm…

Trends & My Picks From the 2015 Spring/Summer Fashion Week.

Hello stylistas, how are you all doing? So, we know the 2015 Spring Summer Fashion week has been on and in my category I call ‘Beautiful Things’ , I bring you my pick on the different looks that caught my eye and got them fixated.

Trends? yes there were a lot of looks that stuck out, far out!trends you’re going to be seeing a lot of before next year. First off though, you will notice that most designers are beginning to agree on one thing- that less is more! even eccentric designers like Vivienne Westwood was quite femme friendly with her Red Label collection.

There was the sporty trend on the runways of the likes of Altuzarra,Preen by Thornton Bregazzi,Topshop Unique and Alexander Wang. Gingham print from Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, to Diane Von Furstenberg! I loved the blooming flower prints in tulips, sunflower and other bold flowers that showed off in abundance on the runways of de la Renta, Carolina Herrera and even Victoria Beckham. We saw tribal designs with the likes of Donna Karen who is never afraid to show her intrigue with this print and then another favorite of mine, the bold stripes. This was everywhere and in fun diverse colors! This is a must have for your wardrobe I tell you!

Vera Wang and Versace made us fall in love with black all over again, reminding us why it is the go to color for the stylish woman. The black and white staple and all white ensemble is here to stay and we saw why on most of the collections. Added to those were pastels in pink and blue (De la renta, DVF) as well as a misty refreshing tones of yellow and red.

The fabrics reminded us why these designers are so-called as they used the most delicate and exquisite fabrics like the lovely silk organza and linen blend fabrics to show off their art in more ways than one. Sheer fabrics were everywhere as well as light floral prints as seen on the runways of Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren and Vera Wang. Shiny, glitzy and glitter was also a mix in Hilfiger’s collection and  Monique Lhuillier’s. Lace was also a considerable addition that lit up the feminine looks on the runway, creating nice dresses and separates… speaking of separates, there was a bit more seen on the runway this week and yes, the eyelets and laser cuts were not lost on us:

My Trend for The Week- Print Pants.

Print Pants have stood the test of Seasons, from Spring to Summer and into Fall. I love them because they add an interesting look to an otherwise boring ensemble and gives the wearer a look worth investing in.

H& M

Prints differ from florals to abstracts and from bold to subtler hues but whatever your preference of colors or pattern, shopping for and owning one in your wardrobe won’t be a bad idea, no? depending on what season you’re in, you could up your look with ankle boots, flats, flip-flops or heels and depending on where you’re going to, you could dress it up for work, or down for the beach or a walk in the outdoors.

H&M

Forever 21

Forever 21

If you would be so bold as to shop one, let me make a few suggestions, for starters, shop one that suits your body type. If you have a pear or full hourglass shape, you may need to stick to those pants with vertical or smaller prints. Even then, try to make sure the fabric is not bulky. Go for something silky or jersey or some light cotton.

Asos

Asos

For those strawberry or athletic builds, have fun with your prints because prints tend to draw attention to the lower part of your body.

I like animal print too, have you noticed how easily they have become a classic? but when styling it, make sure the other pieces are low-key. If you want to go bold, mix the prints in a subtle way and make sure the colors tell a similar story. Here’s an idea for you…

So if you want a trend that is here to stay, pick up a pair of print pants. Cropped or relaxed, straight cut  or slouchy, your print trousers will definitely add character to your look and who knows, maybe get a conversation started…

So before I sign off , I’ve got to ask, would you wear this? I know I do! It is definitely on my A list and in my wardrobe ;))!

The Abuja Make Up Fair Through My Eyes…

Hello my ever stylish readers, how was your weekend? mine was quite eventful as you will soon see, I attended this yearly event called the Abuja Make Up Fair. If you have attended any, you would know one thing is guaranteed- an opportunity to feast your eyes on as much make up as you can afford to buy!!! it’s a make up haven for lovers of make up like me, where you find so many brands of make up sold by a number of retailers in one place! It’s also a place for make up artists to advertise their talents and buyers of make up to be wooed over and convinced on which products to buy and from which retailer… lovely right? I bring good news- if you couldn’t attend it, here’s more than a look at what went on, in pictures:

These pictures should give you an idea of the atmosphere and the fashion at the fair which by the way was sponsored by Maybelline NY in Nigeria. They had a huge presence and offers of free make up tutorials by make up artist, Bimpe Onakoya if you purchased a pair of their Kajal and compact all-in-one make up powder. There was also a general practical tutorial on how to make up given to the attendees… practically all you need to update your make up knowledge. well, I couldn’t attend as I already own the products in question so well, I moved on.

So many products from Zaron,MAC, Mary Kay,Flori Roberts to Tara,a local brand that has an awesome global reach. I never tried any of their products until today though as I got one of their lipsticks to try out and you know what, I do like it… maybe I’ll get more.

I did have a lot of fun and of course I bought a few stuff from make up sponges (you can never have too many I tell ya!) to lipsticks. I also decided to try this Smash Box High Definition foundation. Anyone used it before? any tips or experiences to share? holla ok? in the mean time, here are my buys:

…Like I said, more than enough make up stuff going on in one place! I’m looking forward to the next one to update my make up drawer and of course meet up with fantastic models, make up artists and retailers!!!

Wear The Next Trendy Colors Now…

Hello stylistas, another week coming to a close and we are grateful to God for it. I bear good trend news, for all those like me who haven’t gotten enough of colors like cobalt blue, you can dance for joy because fashion is not done with that color yet!

“This is a season of untypical colors—more reflective of the imagination and ingenuity, which makes for an artful collection of colors and combinations not bound by the usual hues for fall. There is a feminine mystique that is reflected throughout the palette, inspired by the increasing need for women everywhere to create an individual imprint.” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director,Pantone Color Institute®

Colores-Pantone-Fall-Winter-2014-2015

Pantone, the global authority on color for over 20 years, has surveyed the designers of New York Fashion Week and beyond to bring you the season’s most important color trends. This report previews the most prominent hues for fall 2014:

Sangria, an exotic red that evokes a sense of glamorous adventures and faraway destinations…

…is enhanced by Aurora Red, a more sophisticated shade that adds verve and spark.

The grown-up reds are followed by two extremes of the purple family that intrigue the eye and inspire the imagination. Mauve Mist, a romantic and elegant purple shade, reminds us of the deco era and stimulates a sense of femininity and empowerment…

Mauve Mist or lilacmauve mist3

…while Radiant Orchid, a captivating and adaptable shade, enchants the complete spectrum.

radiantOrchidMain1

Pair either with Cypress, a majestic and powerful green; indicative of its name, this shade has a towering presence and serves as a stunning perennial.

With its slightly green undertone, Bright Cobalt offers a subtle twist on the traditional cobalt blue, which unifies this season’s blues.

downloadPANTONE’S-Color-of-the-Year-2014-18-3949-Dazzling-Blue_6

Likewise, Royal Blue, which is both evocative and dignified, provides more complexity and excitement than the average navy, while still remaining versatile.

Pair Bright Cobalt with Sangria and Cypress, or Royal Blue with Mauve Mist and Aluminum, a futuristic stainless steel shade that serves as a complex neutral.

Similar to Sangria, Cognac’s name alone leads to glamorous illusions. This classy and cultured brown takes a typical autumnal color to a sumptuous realm, making the shade unexpectedly ideal for evening wear.

Adding a ray of sunlight and warmth, optimistic Misted Yellow alludes to the promise of spring to come.

Both Cognac and Misted Yellow will also be prevalent in prints—a surprisingly popular trend this Fall.

moda-inverno-2014_pantone-misted-yellow4

Combining Aurora red satchel, yellow blouse, sangria and Radiant Orchid skirts, Cognac belt and purse and aluminium jewelry… nothing could be trendier!

Combining them is not a problem as they are all rich colors that flow easily one to the other and offer a rich combination of hues that is perfect for the skin tones and your mood! we know the colors and I know some of you have already begun to mix and match them but for some of you playing catch up, feast your eyes and the next time you shop, don’t be surprised if the shops are full of these hues, in fact, you’ll be glad because you’ve already learnt how to pair them here!!!

Have a fun-filled weekend!

Stylish Ways To Wear Black.

Hey Stylish readers, This post goes to say one thing- Orange may be the new black this season, but everyone needs a ‘Staple in the wardrobe, no color’ color that takes you in and out of season and that color definitely has to be black!

Although black could be elegant, classy, easy to wear and slimming, for men it looks just as good, ageless and suave to say the very least! but it can very well be very boring and hard to pull off on a regular basis. That is why I would like to show you ways to style this color without looking mournful or repetitive. So here are a few rules to follow:

Rule Number 1: Mix Textures

Fur, Leather, Cotton, Wool, Satin, Silk, suede all come out looking very classy when they are all in black. Want to look edgy but not too out there? try mixing these textures and fabrics- smooth satin with soft suede, leather with fluffy fur or something sheer.

Some designers take the liberty of mixing  these various textures for us but you could go the extra mile and add something to your look…which brings us to rule number two:

Rule Number 2: Accessorize.

Accessories as you already know, is your best friend for a stylish wardrobe and a must for you to pull off this look on a regular basis. Get those bold necklaces working and a pop of bold colors on your hand bags, belts and shoes should speak volumes. Even neutrals like white, gold and Camel are not only ‘ trés chic’ but timeless. If you’re a guy, make sure your shoes, tie and belt tells the story in a good way…

Rule Number 3: Fit

We know black is slimming but nothing else can also exaggerate your look for the worse! Make sure your outfit fits your body in every way especially if you are wearing leather or satin or any other fabric that shines.

Rule Number 4: Your Make Up

Black agrees with all skin tones but let’s not push it by letting you go out bare faced! your make up is very important for the classy look as it also adds contrast to this basic and changes a look from day to night.  A pop of Orange (I had to go there ;)) or pink lipstick will make you look oh-so-trendy and summer-y and red lipstick will definitely bring on all the elegance you need!

So style yourself happy this holiday and remember to wear the appropriate fabric for the weather, wool, fur and heavy fabrics should be worn when its cold and you need a weather-friendly but  trendy outfit and when it’s hot and breezy, cotton, linen, satin and any other lighter breathable fabrics will keep you going!

With these rules on hand, your black on black style should be second to none! I want Feedbacks OK?

Tye Dye Fashion: Would You Wear This Trend?

Hello my beautiful stylish readers, its been an eventful week both personally and work wise! I did an interview for a TV program which was short but quite fun! It is yet to be aired and I’ll tell you more about this in a few days but today, I have a fashion trend that I have made my trend for the week. The Tye Dye print! Surprising right?Isn’t fashion just a cycle?!

The Tye Dye is a process that consists of folding, twisting, pleating and crumpling fabrics or garments and then binding them with strings or  rubber bands followed by the application of dye. The use of these strings prevent the dye from coloring specific areas of the fabric. The dyes are characterized by the use of bright primary colors and bold patterns.Simple motifs, monochromatic color schemes and the use of other fabrics than cotton are what makes this look newer than the earliest Tye dye trends.

A little history: Tye dye prints can originally be traced to America- Peru,Japan and India in Asia, Kano,Nigeria in Africa which inspired the hippie look in the USA  in the 1960s.

So anyway, we now have Tye dye in more modern patterns and now its about minimalism folks! Take a look at these silhouettes from the Resort 2014 looks, runways as well as a few street styles as captured by famous street style photographer, Tommy Ton and tell me, would you wear this trend? do you think it’s hot or hmm… still thinking?

I like the bleached effect in the Burberry look as well as the flirty skirts and maxi dresses! The pullover is lovely and Miranda Kerr’s tee-shirt looks so stylish. For the skirts , you can style with a simple blouse/ shirt or mix and match different patterns like the fit and flare skirt with the blouse in a similar blend of colors. Shop this trend below:
