Dreamy Accessories From the 2015 SS FW You’ll Love!

From New York to London and Milan, we’ve seen beautiful clothes from our favorite designers for the next time the spring and Summer fashion season comes upon us, which of course will be in 2015. I’ve shown you only a few of the awesome clothes but we all know(me especially) that clothes will not be best appreciated without the accessories that are styled with them. Bags, shoes, Jewelry and even make up all put the looks together in the designers’ unique ways and we can’t afford to miss their efforts can we? From clutches to barrel bags and hobos to minaudieres, we have been wowed.

What’s your style personality? classic and chic? boho or lady? seek and you will find the accessory to fit your desires… also notice the bushy eyebrow trend still very present and the turbans from the Missoni runway.  There are strappy sandals at every turn and I love the embellished flats and bejeweled T straps by Dolce & Gabbana. the Burberry sneakers are a beauty along with their Bee Bags which are already on the arms on celebrities and models like Cara Delevingne. I’m sure it wasn’t lost on the designers too as they went all out to offer for the buying of course, accessories we can be sure to see hitting the stores soon…

Awesome pieces! Anya Hindmarch, known for her statement bags was inspired this time by the stickers and pencil cases we lived for in school. Her usual tarsals were on hand and bags in block colors. I love ’em! these are definitely going in my A list! What do you think?

Hugs :))

Trends & My Picks From the 2015 Spring/Summer Fashion Week.

Hello stylistas, how are you all doing? So, we know the 2015 Spring Summer Fashion week has been on and in my category I call ‘Beautiful Things’ , I bring you my pick on the different looks that caught my eye and got them fixated.

Trends? yes there were a lot of looks that stuck out, far out!trends you’re going to be seeing a lot of before next year. First off though, you will notice that most designers are beginning to agree on one thing- that less is more! even eccentric designers like Vivienne Westwood was quite femme friendly with her Red Label collection.

There was the sporty trend on the runways of the likes of Altuzarra,Preen by Thornton Bregazzi,Topshop Unique and Alexander Wang. Gingham print from Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, to Diane Von Furstenberg! I loved the blooming flower prints in tulips, sunflower and other bold flowers that showed off in abundance on the runways of de la Renta, Carolina Herrera and even Victoria Beckham. We saw tribal designs with the likes of Donna Karen who is never afraid to show her intrigue with this print and then another favorite of mine, the bold stripes. This was everywhere and in fun diverse colors! This is a must have for your wardrobe I tell you!

Vera Wang and Versace made us fall in love with black all over again, reminding us why it is the go to color for the stylish woman. The black and white staple and all white ensemble is here to stay and we saw why on most of the collections. Added to those were pastels in pink and blue (De la renta, DVF) as well as a misty refreshing tones of yellow and red.

The fabrics reminded us why these designers are so-called as they used the most delicate and exquisite fabrics like the lovely silk organza and linen blend fabrics to show off their art in more ways than one. Sheer fabrics were everywhere as well as light floral prints as seen on the runways of Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren and Vera Wang. Shiny, glitzy and glitter was also a mix in Hilfiger’s collection and  Monique Lhuillier’s. Lace was also a considerable addition that lit up the feminine looks on the runway, creating nice dresses and separates… speaking of separates, there was a bit more seen on the runway this week and yes, the eyelets and laser cuts were not lost on us:

Finding The Right Statement Jewelry For Occasions

I know, I know you’re reading the post topic and thinking, here we go again with the statement jewelry thing again!…. well, you’re right, here we go again but believe me when I say I have good reason- you know I have told you how important statement jewelry is to your quest to being a better ‘stylista’  ? but did I specifically tell you how to wear these statement jewelries?…mmm or did I?

OK Let’s be honest, we African women know how to put it all out when we have a big society wedding to attend or any event that involves us spending hours with the tailor making sure our ‘Aso ebi’ (Occasion Uniform) outfits are made to fit, our make up is top order and let’s not forget the nails and ‘Gele’ (traditional head tie); but so does every other stylish woman who’s going to be attending that same event especially if they share the same ‘Aso ebi’ as you! So ladies,  this is how you stand out, with your accessories! purses, shoes, pins and what we will be talking about today, statement making jewelry!

So how do you get the right accessories that speak volumes without you having to say a single word? that gets conversations started and just refuses to let you lose the smile on your face because of the approving nods and glances coming your way? whether you are the celebrant or the invited, shop jewelry like this when you need to make an appearance and, you know, thank me later!

Top Make Up Pieces To Have.

Hello stylish readers. Ladies, today we’re talking make up! We shouldn’t go out looking good and then neglect the real completer piece which is our make up. As a matter of  fact, did you know as a woman, no matter how good you dress, if your hair, nails and make up are a mess then your total look will be a mess also? that’s why every look must be complete with good nail, hair and make up especially the eyebrows.

So, if you really are not into that kind of stuff (make up) but want to get that complete look anyway, where do you start shopping from? what are the first things you get? You know you can’t log off this page without learning a thing or two, don’t you?so here we go:

For a healthy start, you should invest in great skin care- moisturizer, make up removers, serum, acne treatment, sun screen etc. Find great products that work for you, are affordable and easy to find in the shops and be loyal to them, that means no jumping from one product to another because you will end up confused by the millions of products out there and your skin will be also. I like alcohol free, perfume free products that do not dry out the skin and the closer to nature a product is, the friendlier I get to be! If you are like a million other moms and busy women out there who do not have enough time for the everyday facial routine, just get really good wipes that do everything from make up removal and cleansing to toning. I use this product called ‘Pure 3 in 1 make up removal’.It has a hint of a scent but also aloe and glycol. I still moisturize afterwards with natural Shea butter, one of the best moisturizer you can ever use. You do know that the older you get,the more interested you should be in moisturizing. A good moisturizer will help prevent dryness on your skin and who doesn’t need their skin looking  plump and dewy all the time? you tell me!

When all that’s in the bag, then go for these:

Foundation/ Powder:

Foundation gives your make up an even surface to build from, a great foundation has to be your skin color, but note that if your skin is oily you could try a shade lighter because the natural oils on your skin will give the illusion of a slightly darker shade. Also make sure it’s SPF proof and one that moisturizes your skin. It is not compulsory to slather it all over your face all the time. If you don’t need much, you could apply just a little spread or use tinted moisturizer instead which is a great way to cut down on the clutter on your face. Also, your foundation once it’s opened should last you for about 6 months to a year before you change it and if you are brown or black-skinned, products like Bobbi Brown,Milani, Lancome, Black opal, Fashion Fair etc, make products specifically to include the brown and black skin range.

Powder is usually used to set the foundation, reduce shine and absorb oil but some are made with such good coverage that they could be applied alone without foundation. They come as cream, loose and matte finishes . For a lighter feel, translucent powder is recommended too.

Concealer:

This is to hide blemishes and under eye circles. It’s very important to have concealer because you could wake up with a blemish without warning and it’s either you have your concealer on hand or you use multiple layers of foundation and you don’t want me to go there! Some concealers are so good you could use them as foundation too. When shopping, you should make sure the concealer is warmer than your skin tone, not necessarily lighter and if you have brown/black skin, get one with orange or golden undertone . Also make sure it’s creamy so it glides over your skin and not settle to create fine lines. To buy, test around the area below your ear close to your neck. I use a dermablend (maximum coverage) concealer called the ‘Black Opal Total Coverage Concealing Foundation’ in Nutmeg- 21 which matches my skin tone to the Tee! its fantastic for brown/black skin and when I use it, I forget I have bags under my eyes( an inherited blessing…or not!) It’s hypoallergenic, 2 in 1 which means it’s part concealer, part foundation and the container might be small but believe me when I say a little goes a long way! It doesn’t dry or flake and you can wear it all day! more good news- it’s so affordable! I got mine for about 2,000 Naira! I usually use my finger tips or a brush to apply my concealer as the sponge doesn’t give me the effect I want but there is this never-ending argument of what is best. I think what is clean and works for you is best.

These are some good Concealers in the market you could try:

Eye Liner:

Liquid or pencil, I would recommend black. The contrast it provides against your eyes is face defining! It enhances and defines your eyes.

Mascara:

Some people would not leave home without their mascara on and for good reason- Mascaras enhance and define your lashes which in turn frame your eyes. One or two sweeps is ok because you don’t want to clump up your lashes. Black or brown is best but blue if you want a really dramatic look and if it suits your eye color. I use ‘ MAC Plush Lash Mascara’  and although the reviews are so-so about it, I like it. It instantly plumps and lifts the lashes and gives you that needed volume, it doesn’t flake and the applicator is a bit tricky because one side of the brush is short and the other long and I don’t really get the reason for that but you will get results if you use it. One noticeable ‘ Con’  though, was how it smudges a bit after some hours if applied to your under eye lashes. When you find a good mascara though, the best use time period is usually 3 months. We all exceed that but try not to go overboard and you definitely should not be caught pumping the wand into the bottle before applying it. It allows air to get in and dries it up quickly.

MAC_20Plush_20Lash_20Mascara

Others you could try:

Eye Shadow:

This provides color for your eyes. A compact palette with a neutral to darker more dramatic shades best suited for your eyes for special occasions is best as neutral shades are what you may choose to use everyday. A good eye shadow should last you for at least 2 years.I use Sleek and MAC palettes:

Lipstick/Lip gloss/Lip liners:

You should have at least two lipsticks in your make up bag- one neutral color that matches your lips in either beige, brown or soft pink and make sure you get moisturizing lipsticks or glosses too, but if you are not sure, have a good moisturizing lip balm to use before you apply your lipstick. Lip glosses are good for those days you want a quick stained or colored look without the serious effect of the lipstick. For the best colors, first find out your skin tone so you can find the best colors-For fair skin: coral reds or dark reds with pink undertones. For medium or olive skin: pink and cranberry shades, and brick reds. For dark skin: reds with burgundy or brown tones. Also remember, when using bright color lipsticks, keep your eyes simple and vice versa so you don’t come off to heavy. Also try to avoid using exact color lipstick for your lips and clothes. Fire engine red dress and lipstick may be a bit too much for the eyes that have to look at you! That being said, good brands abound in lipsticks from Tom Ford to MAC, from Revlon lip glosses to L’Oreal. I must say one of the brands that has won me over is MAC. They’ve got colors that fit most skin tones like the “Ruby Woo Red”.

Lip liners are pencils that are used to line the lips when applying lipstick to keep the lipsticks in and gives off a perfect finish. Most lipstick brands make good liners in colors similar to their lipstick colors. If you have thin lips, trace your liner outside your natural lip line and if you have fuller lips either on your natural lip line or just inside. blend it in and then paint your lipstick inside. It also gives your lipstick a longer lip life span so always try to have some shades as close to your most frequently used tones as possible.

Blush/Bronzer:

Blush adds color to your skin and warms up your complexion to appear fresh and vibrant. Bronzers add more color to your face too especially in areas where light naturally falls on your face. It gives light skin a tanned look without the sun damage and whether you use it daily or occasionally depends on you. Same as the blush.

Brushes:

Applying make up with a brush gives a smoother more professional finish, making one part of your make up blend right into the other from the foundation to the blush and eye shadow. There are specially made brushes that do these functions so you should ask at any store where you are shopping for them. The MAC brushes shown below are some of the brushes I own.

Other make up products you may want to have around:

Shine Eraser:

These are really light, sheets that are meant to blot out oil from your face. You can carry them in your purse and use when you feel the need to. I use the e.l.f Shine Eraser below which does a good job of blotting the oil off my face. It’s just so light I have to use more than two sometimes but they are so cheap it’s OK. They cost about 500 Naira in Nigeria. Other good brands include the Nutrogena.

Nail Polish :

Remember we talked about keeping your hair, make up and nails always looking good? Buy good quality nail polish and make sure you keep them clean and never chipped. I like those pastel and neutral colors but sometimes I enjoy those unexpected mixes or edgy colors that draw attention in a good way.

sexy_dividejam_n_jellyreally_redsheer_bliss

I like to have some lashes lying around too for any occasion that calls for it.

So there you have it folks, my A list in make up! and now I have got to sleep!

5 Things You Must Own This Year!

Good morning stylish readers, how was your weekend? I am very well thanks for asking…

So, you know from the title of this post that this will be an exciting one right?  what are the 5 things you must own that will definitely be a style must have for the year? now I must admit, this list consists stuff I can’t get enough of more than anything else but the good news is that you’ll love them too and no matter your skin color (yes, I always have my color seasons on hand) or your body type (…and that too) you will be the envy of all that set their eyes on you no matter where you go not only now but throughout the year!

A STATEMENT NECKLACE

There’s really no jewelry that stands out in a look like a statement jewelry. Lanvin gave us a full dose of these trends last year, immortalizing everyday words like ‘Help’ , ‘Cool’ and ‘Happy’  on the necks of thousands of fashion lovers until we cried ‘Enough!’

Lanvin Statement Necklaces

Lanvin Statement Necklaces

Now we want more with colors, designs and metals! A statement necklace can turn a simple outfit like jeans and a shirt or even a dress to a unique and stand out look! try one of these:

statement necklaces

BRIGHT COLORED HEELS

Spice up your feet with bright-colored heels and add color to your look in an unusual way. So many colors are out there for you to choose from- blue, orange, yellow… just have a ball! note that when you wear bright shoes though, you should try to down play the rest of your outfit so you look stylish and not like someone took Jamaica’s national flag out for a walk!

ORANGE LIPSTICK

I’m sure you know this just had to be on this list! I’ve said so much about this color, I think I’m just going to let you do the talking for me. Join our new fashion darling, Lupita in the trend as well as other fashion trend setters who love the look almost as much as I do and let me know what your orange lipstick is doing for you OK?

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

See also these wonderful shades below for every skin tone. Fair skins can enjoy any matte or glossy shade of orange especially brighter ones. Medium skin tones would like to play up the warmth with a red based shade paired with a bronzed up neutral and Dark Skins can enjoy darker tones in matte or gloss.

Orange lips!!!

THE SHIRT DRESS
The shirt dress borrows details from a man’s shirt from the collar, button front and sometimes even the cuffed sleeves. Often, these dresses are made up in crisp fabrics like cotton or silk much like a men’s dress shirt would be. As they are typically cut without a seam at the waist, they often have a looser fit, usually relying on a belt to define the waist. Button fronts and a forgiving fit make this a flattering look for most body types…need I say more? OK I will- just three words… sleek, minimal and Chic!
The Shirt Dress
And for when it gets cold, you could belt it up blouson style with a pair of  skinny jeans, leggings and boots.
THE PLISSÉ SKIRT
Finally, the plisse skirt. Plisse is a light kind of fabric made to wrinkle or look pinched by chemicals added to it. You see them on the runways but how about in your wardrobe?! they come in all sorts of colors and lengths and even as palazzo pants. They feel so good and light on the skin you’ll be surprised at how come!

A Product I Like! Tested and Loved.

Hello Stylish readers, it’s a quiet morning this side of the globe! …yes, I’m making small talk while I finish the last sip of my Milo (cocoa drink) 🙂

So when I started this blog, I told myself if I decided to mention any beauty products,I would only talk about those that have been used and enjoyed by yours truly. If it’s hearsay, I’ll let you know but bear in mind that not all bodies and skin types are the same so what may work for A could not have the same effect on B, you get me? That being said, I must introduce you to a product of which brand you may have heard of for a while now,  the Neutrogena Body Oil with a light sesame formula. If you use it or have used it before you will agree with me that it is certainly worth the mention. If you have not, indulge me a little:

I have used Neutrogena Body Oil for about 4 years and being one with about 80% dry skin and the rest normal, I must say this is the kind of moisturizer I had been looking for. It’s so smooth on the skin, best used after a bath or shower to lock in the moisture, it moisturizes very nicely, letting your skin soak it up, and not leaving any greasy feel which I must tell you is one of my pet peeves! Don’t you just hate it when you rub oil on and it stays on not in! Leaving your skin feeling like the back of a frying pan!

Neutrogena Body Oil

Neutrogena Body Oil

jj-1016_2z

The Neutrogena Body Oil (named as one of ex super model Cindy Crawford’s beauty essentials, according to louloumagazine.com) is soft, silky and has a subtle scent that whispers quality to your senses as you smooth it over your skin. My skin tone has been defined by me as Caramel and it has remained that way all these years with people always wanting to know what my ‘Beauty Essential’ secret is. I attribute it to this body oil that has kept my skin on the right note.

Now if you are one of those looking for a product that will make you lighter or whiter, this is not for you. This oil does not bleach or whiten in any way. It only maintains what you already have.

If you’re looking for something new to try, why not try this out and let me know what you think OK?

If you have tried it out what do you think? Is it a beautiful thing or a product boo boo?

:))
